Meet Ivan: our exceptional system technical writer, who has been writing docs for 18 years now

Meet Ivan Stoyanov. He has been with us since September 2022. He graduated Technical University of Sofia with fields of study Communication technologies 20 years ago.

Now, a cherished part of the Devision office in Sofia, he thrives as a skilled technical writer. Outside work, he delights in caring for his two adorable sons – Kaloyan (2 years and 8 months old) and Martin (10 months old).

Besides his passion for writing, he spent four wonderful years playing the drums and now enjoys honing his table tennis skills, boasting several awards from IT table tennis tournaments. In his younger days, he had a strong love for playing basketball. 🏀🥁🏓

What motivated you to join Devision, and what aspects of the company have made you want to stay and thrive here? 🚀

I joined Devision as I understood I would have the chance to work with young and open-minded people. I liked the project summary – working with a German client (I keep very good impressions from my work in the German company SAP for almost 9 years), also an interesting and modern banking software for customer screening and anti-money laundering. I had the chance to meet the project lead Iliya Nikolov who made me a very good impression.

What kept me here is the nice environment, the good management, and the overall company culture to strive for professional success, but also to have good work-life balance and to have marvellous company events.

What are some of the distinct, unique challenges you encounter in your role, and how do you effectively overcome them?

The work of a technical writer requires a lot of communication with various people – overall technical experts, business people such as product managers, developers and developer leads. You have to keep a good relationship with the whole “crew”, and this requires certain set of skills, which I have developed over the years as a technical writer.

You also need to perceive technical details quickly and to be able to describe them in a very simple manner and wording, so they would be understandable for an unexperienced user. This requires a lot of effort, self-testing of the software, googling the terms, reading confluence concepts and other materials.

What is your most memorable moment at Devison?

The Christmas party in December 2022. I had the chance to meet all Devision colleagues in person, and we made very good memories.

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

Balancing parenthood with cherished moments spent with my kids brings immense joy. Soccer matches fuel my passion, while leisurely strolls in the park rejuvenate my spirit. Sharing laughter and creating memories with friends completes my heartwarming journey.

When are you the happiest?

When me and my relatives are healthy, when I have clearly defined short-term and long-term goals (personal and professional), and when I have a good social life. 😊

I do not know – Ivan Stoyanov…hahaha 😊 OK, a doctor.

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

The liberation of Pleven from the Ottoman Empire. I was a citizen of Pleven and have lived close to the Panorama monument. I have always imagined the great battles that had happened there.
